The Strategic Human Resources Leadership program is an intensive course designed to enhance HR professionals’ abilities as strategic business leaders. The program is recommended for professionals with some management responsibility that are ready to advance or those in the top role that want to enhance performance and gain a broader business perspective. This interactive program offers the latest in learning technologies, world-class faculty, nationally respected guest speakers, and university accreditation and reputation.

Participants will undergo a personal behavioral assessment and will receive feedback as a part of their executive development process. The faculty will use these assessments to tailor the program to the specific needs of the students.


Strategic Human Resources Leadership is split into two modules:

Module I:

Day One – Business Analytics and Finance
  • Build financial acumen and improve your financial literacy
  • Evaluate your organization’s financial strength by understanding the balance sheets and Income Statements
  • Identify quantifiable benefits of talent initiatives and use business processes to justify investments
  • Build a Talent Scorecard that aligns key talent metrics to business objectives

Day Two - Business Analysis and Strategy, Executive Presence, Effective Presentation Skills
  • Articulate the overall business strategy of your organization
  • Learn tools and techniques of Business Analysis to drive better business outcomes
  • Understand how businesses compete and how to create  a competitive advantage
  • Identify process inefficiencies that inhibit profitable growth
  • Tools = SWOT, External Factors, Alignment and Line of Sight
  • Learn or enhance your ability to think and execute strategically
  • Understand the language and thought processes used in making strategic business decisions
  • Learn how to develop your Executive Presence and personal brand
  • Persuade leaders and employees of the critical need and value of change
  • Pitch a compelling business case utilizing effective presentation skills

Module II:

Day One – Capstone Presentations and Change Management  
  • Develop updated frameworks for planning, communicating and implementing change
  • Outline leadership role during a change initiative
  • Create metrics and tools to measure the effectiveness of change
Day Two – Change Management Simulation 
  • Apply change management concepts in a hands on simulation

Potential Program Professors and Practitioners

David Herold Ph.D. - David's areas of specialization include leading change, talent management, organizational design, and performance feedback. David earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Yale University.

Rick Brandt, Ph.D. - President of Consulting Services for the TalentQuest Corporation. Rick works directly with clients in the areas of strategic organizational development, leadership development, and executive coaching. He earned a Doctorate degree in psychology from The University of Mississippi.

Jerry Mabe - CEO and Co-Founder of RightPath Resources, Inc., a leadership and talent management company. Rightpath partners with companies throughout the United States, including AT&T, Southern Company, Coco-Cola, The Weather Channel, and State Farm.

Richard Gooner , Ph.D. - Assistant Professor in the Marketing Department of the UGA Terry College of Business. A partial list of corporations he has worked with include IBM, P&G, Wal-Mart, Pfizer, and the US Navy. Richard earned his degree from the University of North Carolina.  

Richard Branton - Co-Founder of Advanced Strategies, Inc. Advanced Strategies is a consulting and training firm specializing in developing consensus on problems and solutions for large complex problems. During his career, Richard was Manager of Data Administration for the Southern Company.

David Sutherland, Ph.D. - is a University of Georgia Terry College of Business Adjunct Professor who teachers innovation in the Executive MBA program. David has worked with companies like BMW, Apple, Nike, and Bank of America. David received his Ph.D. from the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia.
